Explore South American traditions in Pachamama
Pachamama is a Euro game combining elements of exploration, logic, terrain building, deduction, and an included solo mode.
Designed by Olivier Grégoire with Art by Raphael Samakh
“The Earth Goddess Pachamama constantly guides the Quecha farmers, by specifying the distribution of crops to be planted, according to her own logic, of course. No one would dare transgress the rules dictated by Pachamama!”
For 1–4 players, Pachamama has a playtime of around 60 minutes and is recommended for players ages 14+.
*UPDATE* This game has unfortunately been canceled till early 2022 according to the publisher.
Pachamama looks like the type of variable deduction game I tend to enjoy. It comes with many beautiful components including the very unique Pachamama Wheel. An elegant solution that avoids the use of an app. Players add scenario discs (both long and short) into the Pachamama Wheel to create the variable set-ups which will keep games fresh and new-feeling for many play sessions.
With more than 20 scenarios (just for starters!) with more being unlocked through the campaign as I write this!
As far as gameplay, the spaces are filled with terrain tiles including mountains, Forests, Deserts, and Valleys. Players will grow traditional crops from the Americas including quinoa, corn, chili, coca leaf, and sweet potato.
The game comes with an Otama solo mode with 2 meeples representing the nonplayer character. Every game produced during the time of Corona Virus is wise to include a solo mode!
I’m drawn to this game for several reasons. First, this looks like a fun mix of Euro/Deduction. Second, it’s so nice to see the theme be based around the native Quecha people of South America. There are already WAY too many games about Europe. I also really love the idea of the Pachamama Wheel that keeps players away from apps on their mobile phones while still providing hardy randomization.
The benefits of backing this project include the Gamefound exclusive stretch goals, a replayable scenario disk for following before the campaign began, 2 replayable scenario discs, discounts for group purchases, and the chance to receive the game before any retail release. A free language addition from the available choices can be selected free along with the English rulebook.
