Today we take a brief look at some of the games in the midst of their crowdfunding campaigns. If any of these interest you please check out their respective campaign pages which are all linked within the article. I will give a bare-bones look at some of the campaigns I think might be of interest and provide a few opinions and data points. I hope this is useful for those who don’t have the time to wade through the various projects.

Skyrim comes to a tabletop near you!

We are starting our roundup on Gamefound with a big one! The Elder Scrolls V: Skrim The Adventure Game. A cooperative or solo campaign game that sounds very much like the well-loved RPG video game franchise.
£551,692 raised 3,350 backers

Core Pledge: £68
Gameplay Tier: £140

Now that is a miniature!

Lords of Ragnarok €1,096,482 raised 7796 backers

A massive area control game with finely detailed miniatures set in a Sci-Fi Nordic world where might makes right.

Core Pledge: €99
Mythic Pledge: €169 (includes Sundrop)
7 days left for LoR!

Ever wanted to…run an inn?

Crossroads Inn: The Board Game €16,172 raised 119 backers

Based on the digital game of the same name. A strategy economic board game about building up an inn from scratch. This one looks like something I’d enjoy but I’m worrying it won’t hit its funding goal. The designer recently put out an update on lowered shipping costs which should help.

Core Pledge: €50

Innkeeper’s Pledge: €120 (Go with the core pledge. This price doesn’t feel justified.)

This looks fun!

The Gatherers: Tiny Kingdoms Tabletop Roleplaying Game

$4,492 raised 24 backers

This is a small project but I feel it’s a sort of diamond in the rough. I don’t usually play TTRPGs but I’m following this campaign because it’s so different from others. This gives me nostalgia for reading The Borrowers stories as a child. There’s an option app that has some pretty unique utility for this game and the theme of building a kingdom within your own home is really fun. I’m following this one and strongly considering diving in even though I haven’t played TTRPGs in many years.

Evergreen game?

Marvel Dice Throne $1,569,549 raised 14,958 backers

A highly-replayable, low complexity dice game set within the Marvel universe. Not a lot I need to say about this one. It’s a really huge campaign. Check it out on Kickstarter.

Core Pledge: $84

Fight for Japan!

Senjutsu: Battle for Japan $1,035,390 raised 10,023 backers

This is a heavy combat game in which players move detailed miniatures over a hex board as they battle in an advanced RPS battle. Featuring cooperative, competitive, and solo play, Senjutsu lets players select cards to use to outmaneuver their opponents and a highly praised automa opponent.

Core Pledge: $48

Gameplay All-in: $164

I was initially following this one and I think it looks both beautiful and interesting, but for the gameplay all-in price it feels like a poor value for what you get and the core pledge is a bare-bones game. If I purchased this I feel I would regret missing out on the extra playable characters but don’t want to overspend for the add-ons.

Speaking of different and budget-friendly

Class War $68,452 raised 1,334 backers

Turning to something that won’t destroy your wallet, Class War looks like an interesting 2-player game. It’s an asymmetrical strategy game, though politically-themed it’s not moralizing but instead has fun with economic issues. I have my eye on this one as a fun travel game and I love the flavor text. An example from the card Labor Organizer “My great-granddad didn’t bust his ass in the union for 40 years just to watch us surrender Taco Tuesday like it was nothing.”

Core Pledge: $35

A new take on a classic

Hanamikoji: Geisha’s Road $68,099 raised 1,383 backers” The sequel to the quick yet profound 2-player card game Hanamikoji.”

I’m all-in on this one! I really like the art on this new game and the 7 expansion modules should add variability to both the original and this new sequel.

Core Pledge: $22

Everything Hanamikoji: $59

An early look at part of the board in Jiangnan

Jiangnan: Life of Gentry $17,183 raised 210 backers

“A worker placement, area control, action tile drafting, and bag-building board game for 1–4 players.”

Play as skilled artisans in historical China. This one looks worthy of further consideration and I’ll have to deep dive into some of the many videos linked on the campaign page so I can decide if this one is a good fit for me and my local game group.

UPDATE: the Jiangnan campaign has canceled = (

Alice!

Paint the Roses: A cooperative puzzle game in Wonderland $266,715 raised 5,000 backers 7 days to go!

“Try to outsmart the Queen of Hearts in this cooperative game of logic, deduction, and discussion.” A cute game with an interesting “keep ahead of the automa mechanic.

Core Pledge: $30
Cheshire Cat Pledge: $55

Steampunk!

City of the Great Machine $87,773 raised 1,125 backers

A one-vs-many strategy game featuring asymmetric heroes battling against the Great machine. This one looks like it could be a big hit. The meticulously-crafted Steampunk styled game looks great and there seems to be a lot going on from moving around different sectors to using interesting components.

Core Pledge: $60

Master of the City: $90

Snake is back!

Let’s finish off this article with a fun one! Snake-The Board Game $10,096 raised 132 backers

We all remember the classic phone game Snake. This board game version actually looks fun. Sure, it’s lightweight but we need games like that in our collections too. For 2–4 players with a playtime of 30–60 minutes, I think it’s worth checking out.

Core Pledge: $39

Deluxe Pledge: $55 (I think the core pledge is a much better value)

Of course, there are many, many other campaigns running that I failed to mention — some of them even large ones. If none of these scratched your crowdfund consuming itch head on over to Gamefound or Kickstarter and have a look at the hundreds of other options available.

Which of these are you most intrigued by?

If you could take a moment to follow or share this article I would really appreciate it. I’m looking to provide regular articles on an array of board games because I feel we have a lack of quality articles in the board game space. If you enjoy my articles please click follow on Medium or give this article a share so I can continue to make more of these!
